VMEI can help students find a place to live. There are many different types of accommodation you can choose from. One of the most popular and affordable types of accommodation is homestay, where you live in a home as part of the family.

Temporary Accommodation

If you need somewhere to stay while you look for a more permanent place to live, the YWCA and Hostelling International are reasonably priced. There are many hotels near VMEI. Some of them are the Ramada, the Victorian Hotel, the St. Regis, the Burrard Inn and the Days Inn.

Homestay Accommodation
We find that homestay is a good way of making contact with local Canadians and practicing your English. Let us know and we will arrange it for you.

Bed & Breakfast (B&B)

Apartments
Vancouver has a wide variety of furnished and unfurnished apartments available. VMEI can find a furnished apartment for you in the downtown area, close to the school. These apartments are comfortable and secure, and some have swimming pools and exercise rooms. If you want, VMEI will arrange it for you and personally inspect it before you arrive. Bell Accommodation Services is a company that provides furnished rooms and apartments.

Shared Accommodation
It is common for two or more students in Vancouver to rent a house or apartment and share the expenses. You may want to consider this after you meet other students at the Institute, or you can look at the shared accommodation that is advertised in the newspaper here. You will, however, have to make your own arrangements for this type of accommodation.

Arriving by Air

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is approximately 20 kilometers from VMEI. The Institute will pick up registered students from the airport free of charge on Saturday or Sunday. If you arrive on another day or have not made prior arrangements with the Institute for a pick up, a taxi will cost about CDN $25-30 to downtown.

You can catch a special bus (The Airporter) which goes downtown and leaves every 15-30 minutes for about $12.

You can also use public transportation which only costs about $3, but it is not very convenient if you have much luggage.
